During 2018 INPS Southeast Asia Director and Asia-Pacific correspondent Kalinga was constantly on the road in 2018: giving lectures on mindful communication, teaching radio journalism at PSB Academy in Singapore, coordinating the first Asian Buddhist Media Conclave in New Delhi for the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC), visiting grassroots development projects in Thailand and meeting Buddhist communicators in Myanmar.
Kalinga has received a small grant from the Foundation for Universal Responsibility of His Holiness Dalai Lama to do a consultancy report for IBC on the media needs of Asian Buddhist communities. He is expected to visit most of the Buddhist countries and communities in South and Southeast Asia to complete the report by the end of 2019.
Kalinga’s visit to Myanmar was the first of these trips as the coverage of the country’s Buddhists by the international media is of major concern of Buddhists in Asia.
Kalinga is also involved in developing journalism training programs to train Asian communicators on mindful communication for sustainable development.
Recently he gave talks in India at Nava Nalanda Mahavihara University and Viswa Bharati University in Shantiniketan on the topic. He is looking for funds to create special reporting projects for INPS where these principles will be adopted in the coverage of development issues.
